Company Background

In 1926, John Saleen bought a little known British dog food company and moved it to southern California. He renamed the company Nutro Products and began to offer the product locally. His intentions were to merely provide the local area with a great dog food; however, 1976 would find the company in new hands and with a new direction. The company immediately began to expand its market until they were in US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Europe.

Soon Nutro dog food was offering a new Max line of natural pet foods for their customers. What is unique about the new formula is more in the way it was not advertised. Instead of utilizing common marketing techniques, the company decided that information would be their best advertisement. Nutro Products began printing and distributing literature about the product and how it compared with the competition. This has been an effective method since about 1985.
